WKU Basketball Adds Diagne

Brad Stephens of the Bowling Green Daily News reports (among others) that Moustapha Diagne has been cleared to play at WKU immediately. This news comes just as Josh Anderson was cleared to play last week vs Marshall. Anderson was surplus in the game agains the Herd, as the Hilltoppers destroyed Marshall in Huntington.

All of this is timely, considering Matt Craig of The Athletic ($) had a Mid-Major Notebook post yesterday highlighting the Hilltoppers and their surprisingly short roster to start the year:

The issue was just the lack of bodies. Having only seven players meant heavy minutes, causing fatigue and not allowing any margin for error with foul trouble. It also limited Stansbury’s ability to practice for long periods of time, so he could allow his players rest. The problem would only get worse as the season went on.

This addition is huge if only because it reduces the workload on the current roster of guys. From Stephen’s story:

Diagneโ€™s clearance bolsters a Tops frontcourt that features just two true post players in Dwight Coleby and Justin Johnson. His addition gives WKU 10 players available on its active roster, nine that are on scholarship.

WKU travels to Norfolk this Thursday to take on ODU in the game of the week.
